Can I mix asp and asp.net on the same web-page or will this cause problems. Say I have a default.asp  page that calls a e-mail.aspx page. Is this going to cause problems on my site?  There is alot of functionality already done with asp.net like grid view etc... I like Soop Portal and would like to add more functionality to the page with .aspx...  Since it seem a little more easy to pick up on how to do the coding, since I'm already familiar with c++.

thanks,

Pete

it should be possible, even has been done already

for example alex did include an asp.net thumb generator class (in his clib already available for raven)

but as far as i know it has been limited to some very specific utilities or handy features available in asp.net

mixing it all is imho not a good idea and doesn't make much sense, but i repeat, imho, personaly i would limit it to what i can't do in asp (and whatever you may say that is quite limited, asp isn't as dead as many want us to believe, and there is still a huge codebase around running and using asp)

imho

(depending on version of asp.net etc... your host has to support it of course)

My knowledge of classic asp is limited..  If you all have any good sites to learn from that would help me alot. I have been searching the internet and have found lots of examples of code, but I need lots of explanation on what is doing what etc..

thanks,

pete

well asp classic  is using
vbscript  within the page to do what it does.(for soop portal)

if you already know vbscript
then your more than 1/2 way there

I use this site for a reference

http://www.devguru.com/technologies/asp/home.asp

it also has a vbscript section,

your already a developer
its just a matter of learning the built in functions , syntax and limitations,
vbscript and c++ is much different.

there is even server side jscript in asp
which would be alot closer to c++ in syntax
but  have never done it this way, but is possible.

good luck.

Basically, from what I've seen, aspx tools should work, but I don't think you can make ASP pages that include ASPX include files or vice versa? So a stand-alone aspx page that's linked in from an asp page should be fine.

I too have seen some really good ASPX stuff out there. I've also seen that aspx can be a beast to install on cheap / low-end ISPs that support it but don't make installations easy.  (not that MS tools have a monopoly on less than straight forward installs.....)

My favorite wiki of all time to administrate is an aspx system. But I doubt it does anything from a user standpoint that a truly determined asp coder couldn't make work, though.
